Aniagwu Charges Community Newspaper Publishers To Sustain Relationship With Government

The Delta State Honourable Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu has charged publishers of community newspapers under the aegis of Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Chapter, to do their best to sustain the relationship already established with Government, adding that Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa led administration is always eager to support the economic activities of all enterprising Deltans within the available resources.

He made this assertion while flagging off a 2-Day Publishers’ Media Workshop 2021, themed “Community Newspapers as Nexus for Democratic Development in Nigeria” at the Hotel Benizia, Asaba on Wednesday 8th December, 2021.

The Commissioner bared his mind on the attitude of some Publishers who advertently or inadvertently boycotted the programme because they preferred pecuniary gains rather than knowledge.

He said the essence of the Training Workshop was to enhance the capability of individual Publishers who are in the business of newspapering and not merely for social gathering or monetary benefits.

Aniagwu affirmed that knowledge can never be compared to anything, because it is the number one gateway of achieving success in every human endeavour.

The highly cerebral Commissioner, commended the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, for the initiative to bring the Publishers together under a knowledge based training workshop that would help in broadening their horizons.

He also commended the Manager Communication, Pastor Jackson Ekwugum who is saddled with the responsibility of supervising the Office of the SA on Community Newspapers, for finding it worthwhile to facilitate such programme.

He however, condemned the behaviour of Publishers who refused to jump at the offer of free knowledge, describing them as people not qualified; whereas he praised those who attended for their positive mindset and focus towards making a difference in their line of business.

Declaring the Workshop open, Aniagwu encouraged participants to share ideas, prospects and challenges as they interact with the resource persons, adding that such platform could provide them the right opportunity needed for the right information.

He assured that the workshop would add value to serious minded individuals in the business of publishing, maintaining that every knowledge acquired has the propensity to redefine the business mindset of an individual for the better.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the SA to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Mr Jonathan Onwuka had charged the Publishers to be of good cheer and take as much advantage as they could from the lectures.

He said that the resource persons were carefully selected and he was sure they would do justice to the aspects that would be immensely beneficial to the Publishers now and in the future.
